Meet The LexVet Mobile Surgery Team

Joanne Hughes, DVM
Surgeon
I graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Since then, I have pursued advanced surgical training through a variety of specialty internships, an orthopedic fellowship at Washington State University, and countless hands-on advanced training courses to further my skills and abilities. What I love most about being a veterinary surgeon is that I get to keep learning and growing, all while helping families get the care they need for beloved pets. Outside of work, I like kayaking, playing pickleball, and exploring my new hometown, Lexington. My rescued pitbull, Darla, tags along at times, but the rest of the time she can be found napping on the couch...she is a total freeloader. Her naps are currently supervised by the two stray cats who adopted me, Fred and Ethel.

Marianne Hoover, RVT
Lead Surgical & Anesthesia Technician
I’ve been working in the veterinary field since 2002 and became a licensed Registered Veterinary Technician in 2009 after graduating from Professional Veterinary Assistant School in 2008. Over the years, I’ve built my career around advanced surgical and anesthesia care, making it my mission to ensure every patient receives the same level of attention and compassion I’d want for my own family. The most rewarding part of my work is knowing I’ve helped a beloved pet feel better and brought peace of mind to their owners. Now that I live in Kentucky, I’m continuing to grow my skills while enjoying the change of pace and scenery. Outside of work, I’m often found hunting for unique mushroom collectibles or exploring the backroads with my favorite music blasting. At home I have a cat named Kirby, who loves to surprise me with “gifts” to show me that he is a mighty hunter.

Anesthesia Technician Team
We have a rotating staff of veterinary technicians who monitor anesthesia for us and assist in the OR during surgery. These experienced technicians help us out on their days off from their jobs in primary care veterinary clinics. Working with us, they learn advanced anesthesia administration and monitoring techniques that they can bring back to their regular jobs to elevate the standard of care in local Lexington clinics.
